Well readers it day 5 and I finally have curls!! They may look a little disheveled but i'm rather happy with them overall. I could have spent longer styling them to get a sleeker look but I like them as they are. I've opted for a hat to cover the greasy roots as we're 5 days in so my hair is definitely in need of a wash!
Hats were not rationed during the war so women would use them as an easy way to spruce up outfits. They were also used as a way to cover dirty hair. Here are a few piccies of ladies in the 40s in some fabulous hats:
